Gentle socialization

Socialization is not meeting everyone. It is building positive, safe experiences with the world at your puppy’s pace.

Before you begin

Set up for success.

Step by step

Pair new people, sounds, surfaces, and places with treats, play, or praise. Give your puppy room to observe and choose whether to approach.

Pause or create more distance if your puppy freezes, tucks their tail, avoids, or seems worried. Confidence grows through choice and safety.

Ask your veterinarian about safe socialization before vaccines are complete. Well-run puppy classes can offer a clean, controlled option.

Early months are important, but positive experiences should continue as your puppy grows. Keep exposures brief and successful.
